Thread: Kapu to captain SriLanka XI for the warmup match

Sri Lankan cricket selectors have picked an extremely strong team for the warm-up one-day game against the visiting Indians at the P. Sara stadium to be played on Friday.

This would be the only warm up for the visitors before the three-match ODI series begins in Dambulla on Monday.

Sri Lankan selectors picked such a strong team for the match with a view to win the match, according to sources and almost all players picked are either in the Sri Lanka team or have played for the country in the past.

In-form youngster Malintha Warnapura who had a magnificent test series against the Indians will get a chance to prove himself as a one day player and shake off the tag as a test player.

Warnapura last played in a one-day international against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi last year.

Chamara Silva who is going through a lean patch as a batsman has also been afforded the chance to get into the ODI team while a host of other youngsters are also in the fray to prove themselves.

Selectors had contemplated on including veteran Sanath Jayasuriya in the team as well to let him get into rhythm as he did not play in the test series and may lack match practice, but the former Sri Lanka captain had told selectors he did not need it.

Chamara Kapugedara (Captain), Upul Tharanga, Mahela Udawatte, MalinthaWarnapura, Jehan Mubarak, Chamara Silva, Kaushal Silva, Malinga Bandara, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Dilhara Fernando, Thilina Thushara Mirando, Chanaka Welagedara.

It looks like Kapu is being groomed for the captaincy. Wish him luck!

how can u say this
Kapu has been given the chance to captain the team so it looks like he will be the future captain of SL
his place in the team is also more assured than Maharoof
although both have been international failures\

Maharoof will not be a test match regular as his test match bowling is useless wherease Kapu will break into the test match eleven soon

as much as i would like it i dont think so. he first need to cement him self to the side.
he'll get in ok on ODI's but dont think he can get in to the test team

one of the two will be dropped soon i think. kapu is a long term prospect. dilshan allready in to 30's & doesnt show the same application of samaraweera. if it wasnt for his brilliance in the field he would be out already

Highly unlikely Chamara Silva will be a future capt despite his talent. His PR side is restricted due to English problem. This is the way how things work in SL.

Dilshan wont be in the team for too long. A lot of young guys are competing for his place and his position in the team is challenged.

I think Kapugedara, Warnapura etc will be the obvious choices if they can be regulars in the team and if they show some character in the field

its certain fact that kapu will be the future captain of srilanka.
