TBH its not like the other batters are also up to the mark with the SR. MJ,Chandi,Thiri and Angie were miserable in the last match.Only MJ and Angie can turn things around. If one of the 4 had fired things might have been close in the last match.

Shifting down sanga would not solve the problems we are facing ATM. Its more to do with the guys we have in the team.
It's obvious Mahela should open. I mean bat him at 3 if they are hell bent on Tharanga opening. Not sure what his record is but I remember him winning 2 matches in England batting at 3 in 2006. Has he batted there after the WC?

Sanga and Tharanga killed the last match. Asking the other 3-4 guys to go at 9 RPO is unfair.

Yeah true. Cant actuall ask them to. But it wasnt like the middle order were going at a 100%SR and still lost. Probably that match was gone in the first place. Chasing 300+ was not on the cards there.

I dont remember mahela being very good at 3. Havent really checked his records but id rather have him lower down or open the innings.

My idea with Sanga is to have him at 3 to play the anchor role. Hes not the best at it and hes below par on his SR in ODI's. But its not like we have better options for the no 3 slot. Someday hopefully chandi will be a better bat at that position but ATM don't think he can handle that.

Its useless to discuss team compositions when MJ and Co. defend the selection of Kapu. That sums up what our guys think the future of our cricket should be and how we should play it.

He should improve himself (hasn't happened for a decade) or go down the order. Mahela should bat at 3 when Tharanga opens. That gives us a better chance to win matches. He might fail more than Sanga, but he'll win us a few matches which Sanga is incapable of doing. Mahela should bat in the top 3 because he's capable of playing proper ODI innings. And yes I know this won't happen. Just saying
do not wanna argue with you.

i ll take this record any day from a batsman ask to play anchor role(SR almost 80).And if we had proper consistent enough batsman(who can stuck in to there task and do it,task means the role given to them) to support him, most matches will be wins.

and as we won 19 times out of the 28 times he made 50 or more.

to a WK batsman,i ll certainly take this record.

i think his SR of 80 since 2009 is ok for a player who ask to play the anchor role(even the guys like chandimal, trott, misba, hafeez, younis khan, kallis has the SR of mid 70z or lower, those are the guys who playing the anchor role for most countries).Problem is the position he is coming at.I ll put chandimal at no.3 and sanga at no.4.Then he can anchor the innings from there.that ll work out in a better way as i think.

he is not playing that attractive match winner role in the team.Decent enough 19 wins off 28 matches in which scored over 50 although.

most people like trott, kallis, younis khan, mishba, clarke even chandimal who playing anchor role for each country have SR about mid 70z or below.

Having played 300+ innings he should be able to adjust his game for different match situations. He doesn't. Again, I'm not talking about career SRs or averages.
