Sri Lanka Women played sensibly to record a thrilling 1-wicket win against West Indies Women and level the three-match ODI series by 1-1 at Barbados on Friday. Sri Lanka were handed a massive 88-run defeat by the West Indian Women in the first ODI played at Bridgetown on Tuesday but on Friday they possessed dependability to record a win with two balls to spare. West Indies who were put into bat first made 197-9 and Sri Lanka made 200-9 in reply.
All-rounder Chamani Seneviratna was the pick of the lilies for Sri Lanka. She hit a quick 36 during the chase, after grabbing wickets earlier on. But if not for Yasoda Mendis' gritty half-century Sri Lanka’s win would have been an uphill task. Mendis faced 93 balls hit 51 and she was part of partnerships of 33 for the second wicket, 39 for the third wicket and 32 for the fourth. Seneviratna who remained unbeaten on 36 made sure that she finished the game.
For West Indies Shermaine Campbelle top scored with 56 and opener Juliana Nero made 45. The third and final ODI between the two countries will be played today at Lucas Street.
