Holy cow, posting without even reading the thread title.
As if threads have never gone a little off topic on this forum

Damith brought up the point that it was unfair some people weren't rating Kallis as an all-time great batsman. I was simply replying to that. Might help if you read posts # 179 and 214.

Bah, I reply to the opening post of a thread with my first reply. Funny to see people jumping up and down but could not give a single explanation why Kallis is not the greatest CRICKETER of modern era. Holy cow!

I think it comes down to the way one interprets 'The greatest cricketer'. Someone can take it as the best all-round stats/records. It's completely different for me. Difficult to quantify.

This individual has to be a pretty special player. So I'd look for

A real force in both formats - great performances against top sides
    Threat to the opposition
Quality performer in big matches (say tournament finals) and to go a step further - crucial WC matches at the biggest stage
    Brilliant tactician/leader
Desire to win at any cost
    Ability to inspire teammates

OK.This is why i said Murali.

Always a threat to a opposition.
Quality performer in big matches and under pressure.
Brilliant Cricketing Brain and amazing knowledge about cricket(even Mr.Cricket said Murali is the Mr.Cricket)
Never want to lose, most fierce competitor
And ability to inspire team mates by always chatting and bashing them

and above all the way he Handle him self when half of the world shouting he a chuker, the way he he stands above all the things and still being a such a simple human and the respect every great has about him and his personality.

The explanation was given. Every Kallis supporter ignored the lengthy analysis.
