Five Sri Lanka cricketers Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Mahela Jayawardane and Kumar Sangakkara will be rested for a major part of the Inter-Provincial T-20 tournament which gets underway on July 21.

The five players will be allowed to play in a match or two of their choice.

Sri Lanka Cricket said the resting of the five players is being done as part of the preparation for Australia's tour of the island starting on August 6.

Dilshan will lead Sri Lanka in the two T-20 matches, the five match ODI series and the three match Test series.

dilshan should play every match imo. he's woefully out of form atm. but then again there's this injury concern to his thumb as well.

The proposed tournament included seven teams representing the provinces of Sri Lanka, with two new teams Nagenahira Nagas and Uthura Oryxes. The teams were to be captained by six national captains and a former Sri Lanka vice-captain. The tournament was to feature over 30 international cricketers and be the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. It was postponed until 2012, to be held as the 2012 Sri Lankan T20 Premier League, after problems due to allegations of corruption and incompetence by Sri Lanka Cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had also decided not to allow Indian players to play in the tournament.
