I think it comes down to the way one interprets 'The greatest cricketer'. Someone can take it as the best all-round stats/records. It's completely different for me. Difficult to quantify.
This individual has to be a pretty special player. So I'd look for
A real force in both formats - great performances against top sides
Threat to the opposition
Quality performer in big matches (say tournament finals) and to go a step further - crucial WC matches at the biggest stage
Brilliant tactician/leader
Desire to win at any cost
Ability to inspire teammates
