Thread: SHOULD minnows be included in th WC??

^^ actually we have had this discussion before n most of the ppl were ok with the minnows comin n i think. well i dont have a problem with the minnows bein in the wc its jst the no of minnows in the wc tht is not good.

if u think bout it no1sl..how canu say ire dont deserve to b in the super8s they got through zim n they beat pakistan. IMO they deserve to b there in the super8s.
but the problem is once a minnow side makes it into the super8s or second stage they get found out by much stronger opposition. the best run a minnow side has had is by kenya when they made the semis last yr. tht was a great achivement by them.

u suggest tht we shud have only 9 teams in the wc n not include zim also .zim r goin through some tough times n im sure everyone wishes them the best. but its not right to punish them by cuttin them out of the wc.

pro n i had a discussion once n we more or less came to the conclusion of havin 12 teams. 10 test nations n 2 minnows in groups of 4. in 1992 wc they had the 9 test nations with everyone playin agaisnt each other once before the top 4 went ot the semis. tht is the ideal situation but with 12 teams tht could drag on forever.

we mst give the minnows a chance to play in the wc IF we r expand cricket (frankly ive said this before IMO no more test nations shud b allowed in 10 is fine for me

but whts more impt like ian chappell said is wht happens to the minnows inbetween the WCs-right now they dont get enough games at all . they can easily put into alot of ODI tournaments around the wc to get gain the exposure and experience.

also IMO they shud b playing a league of their own like the test championship we have for full test nations. ie play each other home n away n improve via that b involved in ODIs with the big teams inbetween.

they could have a 4 day minnow league where they play each other for a period of 2-3 yrs to improve their cricket, they cud use a similar set up for the ODIs to qualify for the WC. with the top 2 comin through to the WC

as far as im concerened the wc shud allow only 2 minnows into any WC.

actually in football u dont JUST allow in jst the top countries. every country needs to earn their spot in the WC..there is a 2 yr qualifyin round and play offs before u get the wc. so eng or even brazil might not make it to a given WC cuz u dint qualify.. it gives every country a chance to qualify for the WC. so minnows etc do play in football if u look at russia or ENG(lol) somewould say they r minnows in football..

yes exactly damith ... in soccer wc teams have to prove that they are worthy competitors ... i mean even top teams miss out cos that's how hard it is to get into the wc ... one example is uruguay (past winners) who missed out last time after aussies beat them in a thriller to finally qualify after around 10 years ... while cricket on the other hand pretty much lets any one in ... look at bermuda ... as i remember only one of them was a professional cricketer ... isn't that totally ridiculous?? ohh sure u can argue that minnows should be included to increase the awareness in those countries but wat good is it if they see their team getting thrashed all over the park?? do u actually believe that that'll be beneficial to those respective countries?? ... i truely am sick of seeing crap teams in the wc ... i want more games where the top teams are going at it ... how good would the wc be if all the top teams who have proved themselves to be worthy contenders (SL, NZ, WI, PAK, IND, AUS, SA, ENG and BAN) played each other twice and then the semis and final is then decided on points from those rounds ... that's around 75+ top class games .... i dont know about u but dat would be freakin awesome!!

it would be good if u can play all these matches but u gotta realise no one wants to see a wc tht spans 4 months or so man cuz thts the amount of time u need to play every country 2 times like u said.

ya if u love cricket u wont have a problem but who really wants to see the cup go on for 3,4 months. as it is its too long. u mst think bout player motivation for such a long wc- trust me most ppl get bored bein stuck in a hotel room etc for so long- look at freddie gettin all drunk.

either u jst have a wc for the test nations or u allow in a max of 2

those 2 need to prove themselves over the 4 yrs to be in the wc thts y i suggested a seperate league for them out side the test nations n to play ODIs with test nations to improve their cricket.

if it were up to me id jst have the 10 test nations play each other once n then the top 4 go to semis n final like in 92.

but the name of the game is money so thts unlikely bro.
